Racecourse Media Group Agrees on 5-year Deal Extension for UK Racecourses

RMG, the UK Racecourse Media Group, is the owner of Racing TV. It had a data, content, and audio-visual deal with many UK Racecourses. It has announced that it has entered a new 5-year extension deal in more than thirty racecourses across the United Kingdom. This renewal will cover thirty-five UK Racecourses for RMG’s LBO (licensed betting office) rights as well as 33 UK racecourses for other aspects of the media rights. These media rights include streaming through Watch and Bet, terrestrial TV, Direct to Home, as well as international non-betting and betting until the last day of 2028.

Details of the new RMG UK Racecourse Deal

The deal by RMG’s racecourse shareholders will cover tracks that include Cheltenham, Epson Down, York, and Aintree. That also means that some of the most significant events in the UK Racecourse industry, such as the Cheltenham Festival and Randox Grand National Festival, will remain available through RMG channels. In addition, RMG has added all twenty-six racecourses to its channel coverage two years ago. That means that 5 out of the top eleven races around the world last year were live on RMG’s Racing TV.

RMG Chairman Comments on the New UK Racecourses Deal Extension

The Chairman of RMG, Roger Lewis, stated that it is a pivotal moment for UK racing. The RMG Racecourses, with its unity of purpose, has created confidence and business clarity for many years to come. He also added that this long-term deal extension is a landmark in the business. The deal is going to provide certainty for everyone who is involved in UK Racecourses and the racing industry. However, that is not all, as the RMF Board appreciates the leadership of Martin Stevenson, the CEO of RMG. He has played an amazing role, along with his great team of executives in RMG. They were able to navigate the detailed and complex process that they faced with patience, clear focus, and rigor.

On the other hand, the Chief Executive of JCR, The Jockey Club, Nevin Truesdale, also commented on the matter. The Jockey Club runs fifteen UK Racecourses such as Epsom Downs, Aintree as well as the two tracks in Newmarket. He stated that RMG has always provided great value from data and media rights for more than seventeen years. It has succeeded in unlocking revenue streams in the wagering space more than other sports. He said that this had provided the JCR with the ability to make investments into prize money. It also enabled it to enhance the experience that they can offer to their customers and participants. That is not all, as recently, the income that the RMG has delivers to its shareholder UK racecourses has been vital, especially in current circumstances. Such circumstances have made it quite hard for these UK racecourses as there were no spectators during the racing events.
